PETROL STATIONS IN ASABA ARE SELLING FUEL FOR 143 PER LITRE
By Andy Adaigbe
Fuel now sells at 143 Naira at some fuel stations as against the official pump price of 145 Naira.
Independent petroleum marketers in major cities of the state have adjusted their metres to reflect current realities.
However, some major marketers including: Mobil, Total and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation are still selling at 145 Naira per litre.
In Asaba, a new Rainoil Petrol Station commissioned recently by governor Ifeanyi Okowa, now sells petrol at 143 per litre while other Rainoil stations still sell at 145 Naira.
Chyz filling station in Okpanam road also sells 143 per litre.
A fuel attendant in Chyz filling station disclosed that their products are of high quality and meter reading is fair. A manager in one of the independent marketers station, who prefers to remain anonymous, said they had to reduce the pump price of petrol to 143 Naira because of low patronage owing to the economic recession.
"We had no choice but to reduce the price to attract more customers and encourage them to buy more product. We might be forced to close down if we did not take this decision".
Moreover, a visit to some petrol stations in Asaba revealed that there was low patronage as petrol pump attendants were seen attending to very few cars while others remained idle.
