DELTA POLICE COMMAND GIVES DETAILS OF OPERATIONS, PARADES SUSPECTS.
PRESS BRIEFING BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, DELTA STATE COMMAND, CP. ZANNA M. IBRAHIM, psc, AT THE POLICE STATE HEADQUARTERS, ASABA, ON MONDAY, 13TH NOVEMBER, 2017.
Gentlemen of the press,
It is important for me to brief you again on the giant strides taken so far in our declared war against criminality especially during the ‘ember’ months and to showcase some of our recorded successes as listed below:
1. KIDNAPPING
i. NATURE OF THE CASE: CONSPIRACY, KIDNAPING AND ARMED ROBBERY/RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED VICTIMS – SAKCCS
COMPLAINANT: Akomato Peters B. ‘M’ OF KM 4 Refinery Road, Ekpan, Warri
VICTIMS:
i. Mrs. Justina Akomaye ‘f’ Km 4 Refinery Road, Warri
ii. Mrs. Amarachi Amaka ‘f’ of No. 20 Peter Okome Street, off Salapa Road, Warri
SUSPECT: Paul Koki Ejedegba ‘m’, 36yrs, of Ekere Street office, Primary School Road, Usiefurun
EXHIBITS RECOVERED:
i. Two (2) Pump action guns
ii. Fourteen(14) live cartridges
iii. Two (2) expended cartridges
FACTS OF THE CASE: On 4/11/2017, at about 1630hrs, the victims were driving a Toyota Camry with Reg. No. WWR 316 Z, belonging to Amarachi Amaka, along the refinery road, Warri, when they were suddenly blocked by unknown armed men in a car, who forced them out of their car and took them to unknown destination. However, while acting on available intelligence, operatives of the Eagle-net Special Squad led by DSP. Dimka Usman, stormed the hoodlum’s hideout at Usiefurun in the night of the same date. The victims were rescued unhurt while the suspect was arrested. The above listed exhibits were also recovered from him.
Meanwhile, investigation is in progress.

FACTS OF THE CASE: Recall that during one of our last press briefings, precisely on the 17th October, 2017, we informed you of the unfortunate incident regarding the kidnap of the above mentioned British citizens on 13/10/17, at Enakorogha in Burutu by a gang of armed militants/kidnappers led by one Karowei Mgho. Acting on available intelligence, Operatives of the Command effected the arrest of the first four suspects above who have various degrees of complicity in the case. One of the suspects, Ekpenunena Courtmember confessed to have led the gang to the scene. Also on 14/10/2017, the first suspect Ebimene Arerebo ‘m’, 31yrs of Torrindoro Community in Ekremo local government area of Bayelsa State was arrested by a team of military men attached to Sector 1 Operation Delta Safe, Effurun based on information that he aids and abets the activities of the notorious kidnap syndicate headed by Karo-owei by acting as informant to the syndicate. The roles played by the suspects are as follows:
* Ekpenunena Courtmember – he led the gang to the victims’ residence and also provided fuel for the engine boat used for the operation.
* Wirly Huludu – he was aware of the gang’s activities but concealed the fact. On the fateful day, he put a call to one Bokeyo, who is suspected to be the second-in-command to the gang leader, who in turn warned him (Wirly Huludu) not to ask him about the expatriates.
* Godswill Hana – he was indicted by Ekpenunena Courtmember, but investigation is ongoing to ascertain his level of involvement.
* James Tennes – he aided and abetted the gang members by providing drinks for them, and also knows about their movements and serves as their informant thereby making their arrest difficult.
* Ebimene Arerebo – he acts as informant to the kidnap gang.
Meanwhile, the gang leader, Karo-owei Pere Gbakumor ‘m’ of Enekorogha community, Burutu LGA, Delta State, has been declared wanted, and a handsome sum of two million naira (N2M) will be given by the Command to any person who could come up with information that would lead to his arrest.
SHOOTING OF IRT PERSONNEL
On 8/11/2017, Intelligence Response Team (IRT) Operatives deployed to Delta State in pursuit of the kidnappers who kidnapped four (4) British citizens in Burutu successfully arrested two of the suspects. The duo confessed and volunteered to lead the IRT Operatives to arrest their remaining gang members in Sapele, Delta State. On sighting one of the kidnappers, the IRT Operatives advanced to arrest him but unfortunately, the armed suspect suddenly brought out a berretta pistol and shot at F/No. 359454 Sgt. Sanusi Lanre in the stomach and F/No.360140 Sgt. Agunbiade Adebayo on his two hands. Other IRT members around immediately replied and gunned down the kidnapper, recovered the pistol and conveyed him and the wounded operatives to the hospital. However, on 8/11/17, at 1100hrs, the injured Sgt. Sanusi Lanre, who had been on intensive care unit of DELSUTH since the shooting, died.
Investigation is in progress.
iii. NATURE OF THE CASE:CONSPIRACY AND KIDNAPPING – SAKCCS
COMPLAINANT: Dragon Patrol Team, Delta Command
VICTIM: Nwaobi Judith ‘f’, of Ogbe-Owele Qtrs., Issele-Uku
SUSPECT: Okechulwu Okpa ‘m’, 27yrs of No. 100 Old Lagos-
Asaba Road, Issele-Uku
EXHIBITS RECOVERED:
i. One cut to size single barrel gun

FACTS OF THE CASE: On 2/11/2017, at about 1400hrs, unknown armed kidnap gang attacked the victim who was driving in her Toyota Camry car along Issele-Azagba expressway in an attempt to kidnap her. The victim divinely escaped. While on observation patrol along the same axis, a team of Dragon Patrol suspected and stopped a commercial bus by Otulu axis. Upon suspicion, the suspect, Okechukwu Okpa was arrested and upon search, a bag containing a cut-to-size and one live cartridge were recovered from him. The suspect confessed to the act alongside others still at large.

iv. NATURE OF THE CASE: CONSPIRACY AND KIDNAPPING – SAKCCS
VICTIM: Ugbokan Martins ‘m’, of NUT Road, Abraka
SUSPECTS:
i. Erovie Faith Eruoghene ‘m’, 30yrs of Urhoka area, Abraka town
ii. Okhihie Israel ‘m’, 33yrs of Abraka town
EXHIBIT RECOVERED: Totyota Camry Reg. No. GG 574 EG.
FACTS OF THE CASE: On 1/11/2017, at 1900hrs, a kidnap gang operating in a Toyota Camry with the above registration number and kidnapped the above victim from his residence and forced him to pay a ransom fee of N1.5m via mobile transfer. Acting on available intelligence at their disposal, men of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Abraka, trailed and effected the arrest of the suspects at various spots in Abraka town, and also recovered the said Toyota Camry used to perpetrate the act.
The suspects will soon be arraigned in court.
v. NATURE OF THE CASE:CONSPIRACY AND KIDNAPPING –

EXHIBIT RECOVERED – M/Benz, S-Class, Reg. No. JRT 353 TX
FACTS OF THE CASE: On 24/10/2017, at about 1930hrs, a six-man kidnap/armed robbery syndicate operating on a motor-cycle blocked the victim along Uhelli/Patani road, by Afisiere junction and kidnapped him to unknown destination. Acting on a tip off, a joint military patrol team effected the arrest of the suspects at different locations in Sapele town on 26/10/2017. The above vehicular exhibit was recovered from the hoodlums.
Investigation is on course and case will soon be charged to court.
2. ARMED ROBBERY
i. NATURE OF THE CASE:ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS/RECOVERY OF STOLEN VEHICLE – DRAGON/OGWASHI-UKU DIV.
VICTIM: Florence Uboh ‘f’, of Ogunu Road, Warri
SUSPECTS:
i. Sgt. Okologbo Anthony ‘m’, 32yrs with No. 03NA/53/4586 of Nigeria Army Engineering Regiment, Onitsha, Anambra State,
ii. Kelly Ogun ‘m’, 38yrs of Peoples Club, Mkpor road, Onitsha
iii. Chiko Kiku ‘m’, 25yrs of Ugberami community, Ughelli, Delta State.
EXHIBT RECOVERED: Rav 4 Jeep Reg. No. EKY 297 EJ
FACTS OF THE CASE: On 11/11/2017, at about 0340hrs, Dragon patrol team 22 stationed along Kwale/Ogwashi-uku road, intercepted a Rav 4 Jeep with Reg. No. EKY 297 EJ, driven by someone in army uniform, with two other occupants, between the ages of 25-30 years. On questioning, they claimed to be heading to Onitsha in Anambra State, but could not produce the vehicle particulars. Upon search conducted on the vehicle, the vehicle particulars found indicated that one Florence Uboh ‘f’ of Ogunu road, Warri, is the owner. Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle was robbed from her two days back at Ughelli.
Meanwhile, the three suspects have been arrested for further investigation, while the vehicle was impounded.
3. OTHERS
i. NATURE OF THE CASE:ARREST OF ILLEGAL MANUFACTURER OF LOCALLY MADE GUNS, RECOVERY OF LOCALLY MADE GUNS – SARS
SUSPECTS: Ponsak Magani ‘m’ 45yrs of Ibusa, Delta State

FACTS OF THE CASE: On 7/11/2017, at about 1725hrs, SARS operatives, acting on a tip off, arrested the suspect at opposite Customary Court, Ogbe-Owele quarters, Ibusa and recovered from him the above exhibits. Investigation is in progress.

COMMENTS:
LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN DELTA STATE: The Command is aware of the forthcoming local government elections billed to take place, on 6/1/2018, simultaneously in all the three thousand, six hundred and twenty-four (3624) units of the four hundred and sixty-six (466) wards in the twenty-five local government areas of Delta State. It has accordingly put strategies in place to ensure seamless elections by providing security for:
* DSIEC and adhoc staff,
*election materials,
*and to create enabling security environment for the elections amongst others.
Also, nothing less than twenty four thousand, two hundred and twenty nine (24,229) officers and men will be deployed with reinforcement from zone ‘5’, ten neighboring states (Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Imo, Kogi, Ondo, Osun and Rivers). Special Forces are also expected from Mopols 5, 18, 30, 19, 29, 48, 54 and 56.
CONCLUSION: The Command, working in collaboration with sister security agencies and the strong support of the state government and other stakeholders, have emplaced strategies that are yielding positive fruits as exemplified by the peaceful atmosphere being enjoyed now in the state. Our resolve however, is to sustain the momentum.
